Women in Accounting Symposium
The Fisher School of Accounting, along with Ernst & Young LLP, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP(PwC), KPMG LLP, Deloitte, and the American Association of Attorney's - CPAs, hosted its first Women in Accounting Symposium. The two-day event was held in Gainesville and featured successful Fisher School alumnae who offered their insight into topics ranging in scope from work-life balance to entrepreneurial opportunities with an accounting degree.
The symposium began on Friday, January 11, with a networking reception and dinner at the Haile Village Town Center. Keynote addresses were delivered by Joelen Merkel, UF Trustee and Retired Senior Vice President and Treasurer of Chris Craft Industries, and Adrienne Figur, Senior Tax Manager at Ernst & Young Atlanta. On January 12, the symposium reconvened at the Harn Museum of Art where presentations were delivered by Karen Mitchell of KPMG, Julie Williams of PwC, Linda McGurn of McGurn Investment Company, Mary Knight-Tyler of Home Interiors, and Joan Millet of Deloitte.
Over 50 women from the Fisher School of Accounting attended the symposium, and ample time was provided for the students to interact with the guest speakers. Thank you to all participants who made the symposium a resounding success, and a special thank you to UF graduate student Jaclyn Hirneise, Symposium Chairwoman, for organizing this event.
