Academics

Enhance your business degree by taking part in at least one of the following activities. To make the most of your academics, take balanced course loads, choose appropriate courses, go to class prepared, interact with instructors, and devote ample time to your studies.

Earn a Minor or Certificate

Earning a minor or certificate demonstrates that you have completed a significant body of work outside your major. In addition, a minor or certificate allows you to explore personal interests, satisfy your intellectual curiosity, and differentiate your program of study from those of your fellow students.

Go to Graduate School

A graduate degree allows for more in depth study and can result in greater opportunities for career advancement and success in business. You can search online for desirable graduate programs, their eligibility requirements and application deadlines. Plan ahead: most graduate schools require above average GPAs and GMAT scores, as well as letters of recommendation from faculty.

Do a Research Project

Conducting research will help you develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. In addition to developing your reasoning and problem solving abilities, a research project will provide you with valuable work experience and more in depth knowledge of your field. It will also provide you with a chance to work with a faculty mentor who can later serve as a valuable reference. There are two primary ways to engage in academic research: through the University Scholars Program and by writing an honors thesis.

WCBA Departments

You can find a faculty mentor by researching the University Scholars Program Mentors link or by searching the WCBA departmental directories to find an instructor who conducts research in your area of interest. If you already know the professor that you would like to with, approach him or her directly. The department office that oversees your research area can also help you find an advisor.
